The Studio

I believe any music education should foster a love of music.  We won't all choose to pursue music as a career, but music can still enrich us at all stages of life!

About Me

My name is Carrie-Ann (she/her).  I am a singer/actor/music teacher in Edmonton.  I have a Master's Degree in Music from the University of Alberta, specializing in vocal performance, and a Theatre Arts Diploma from Grant MacEwan University.  I am trained and experienced in popular, musical theatre and classical voice.  I have 5+ years experience teaching singing.  I teach out of my home studio in Parkallen, and offer lessons both in person and online through zoom.

When should children learn to sing?

Your child is already familiar with their voice. They’ve been learning how to use it since they were an infant, and it will continue to grow and change with them throughout their life!  Vocal lessons enrich this development not only by teaching them to use it as an instrument, but also by fostering a greater understanding of this part of themselves.

It is never too early to start singing, however it is important to maintain healthy age appropriate expectations.  Young children have smaller bodies, smaller lungs and smaller ranges.  As their voices grow, young students can start by learning theory, developing their ears and understanding of note relationships, and learning of how the voice works.  As students get older, they continue with this education while starting to advance their technique.

Lessons for all ages

My studio is a great mix of all ages and abilities.  I have both adult and young students at varying stages of learning.  Some of my students are music professionals working to improve their singing skills, while others are regular folk looking to feel more confident using their voice.  It is never too late to learn how to sing. Everyone has a voice and can be taught to use it.  While I cannot promise to make you sound like your favourite singer, I can promise that we will go on a journey together to help you learn to use and love your voice.

Safe space

Hubbard Voice Studio is a LGBT-Owned Business.  My studio is and always will be a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community.  All identities are welcome, respected, and wanted in my studio.  I promise to hold myself accountable for growth and learning.
